Dual Credit English IV
Students enrolled in this class are able to receive English IV and college credit for Freshman English. Students in the Dual Credit – English IV class have the opportunity to receive Freshman English credit while still in high school.

English III
English III focuses on American Literature. Students read major works such as Of Mice and Men, The Crucible, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Scarlet Letter. Students also read non-fiction, short stories, and poetry. There is emphasis on analyzing literature and linking literature to historical events.
Students write in a variety of forms including business letters, resumes, narrative essays, and structured essays. In the spring students write a research paper based on an event in American history. Preparation for the TAKS test is also an underlying element in the class.

AP Literature
AP Literature is offered during the junior year. Students read, analyze, and write to prepare for the AP Literature exam in addition to English III curriculum. Students read major works including: The Crucible, The Scarlet Letter, The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, and a Midsummer Night’s Dream. Students also read short stories and analyze poetry. Students also select and read classic novels as a preparation for college.
There is also a focus on writing about literature. Students write the same formats as English III but also write creatively. Students study mythology, archetypes, and other literary elements. AP differs from regular English III in that it is more rigorous and more creative. | |

Journalism
Students learn to use Adobe Photoshop to manipulate digital photos and StudioWorks to design yearbook pages. Most of the class if focused on creating the yearbook. The yearbook is student created. Students pick the design, take the pictures, write the text, and design the pages that capture one school year in 160 pages.
