HISTORY!
When people find out I'm a coach and a history teacher, they usually tell me that they should have known. I will tell you that I take history just as serious as coaching. I am passionate about history and truly believe that we need to learn it to learn from our mistakes. I try to bring history alive in the classroom with the hope that your child will come to enjoy it as much as I do. Some of my favorite characters in history are the Greeks, Jews, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and the Comanche tribe. I love to learn about local history as well as the history of this great state! I welcome you to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have, and I hope this year will be an enjoyable one for your child!
Government/Economics
I am deeply intersted in government and economics as well. I try to stay up on the latest political and economic news of our country. I truly believe we live in the greatest, freest, most powerful country that has ever been! I think it is important for young people to know the cost of that freedom and where that freedom originated. I think young minds should learn how they can make a difference in politics and that sound economic choices can ensure a prosperous life. I will challenge your child to think for themselves and form their own opinions about our government and leaders as well as what a free market economy is all about.
Little Known History about the South Plains
Most people know a little about the history of this area. Did you know though that the Coronado Expedition of 1540-42 traveled through the South Plains in search of the fabled city of Cibola? Did you also know that Robert E. Lee hunted indians in this area while stationed at Fort Concho in the 1850's? There are rumors of buried Spanish Gold near Aspermont and Jim Bowie's lost silver near Dickens.
