Friends don't let friends play wrong notes.
3rd Period Band
In third period, each student earns a weekly playing grade and a weekly participation grade. Students are graded daily on how well they are prepared for class/participate in class and how well they play their instruments.

The weekly participation grade is comprised of a maximum of 20 points per day for a maximum of 100 points each week. Making sure you are participating is vital because the success of the group depends on EVERYONE being engaged and focused. The UIL Band contests grade how well the entire group plays; and, the Band only gets one chance. This means that we have to be focused every time we meet to rehearse; practice makes permanent!

The weekly playing grade is comprised of a maximum of 10 points per day, plus a weekly playing test worth up to 50 points. Together, the daily playing points plus the playing test equal a maximum of 100 points per week.

The more practice is done at home, the more quickly we can move through our book. I am more interested in how well we can play an exercise (Quality) than how many exercises we can play (Quantity). (We will be skipping some exercises anyway.) Make a routine out of practicing at home every school day and you will be impressed with how well we play in class!

3-D Band
High School Band is one of the most fun things you could ever do in High School. And, you get out of Band what you put into it. Treating Band like any other class will help you stay on top of your responsibilities for Band. Practicing and memorizing music (HOMEWORK), staying on top of knowing your marching band spot (ATTENDING ALL REHEARSALS), and not wasting time doing other things in rehearsals MAKES the Band better. And the better the Band is the more fun you have!

So, what new limits can we set for 2007-2008?

Go 3-D Band!!!
